For our annual visit to the APEX, the Wolsey Orchestra is delighted to present an evening of orchestral showpieces featuring Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3 in C minor - his “Organ” Symphony. Commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society and premiered in London 1886, this is probably Saint-Saëns’ most famous symphonic composition although is probably performed less frequently in the concert hall that his piano, violin and cello concerti and other popular works such as Danse Macabre and his Carnival of the Animals.
And in the first half of the concert, we have a “double-helping” of Romeo & Juliet for you; we will open the concert with Tchaikovsky’s exhilarating fantasy overture followed by a selection of movements from Prokofiev’s ballet.
This promises to be a really memorable evening of popular orchestral music - so please book your tickets early to avoid disappointment!
